Lasik

LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis)
For correcting Nearsightedness, Farsightedness and Astigmatism, so you're much less dependent upon glasses.

A Brief Timeline Relating to the LASIK Procedure:

  • Introduced in the early 1990s, today LASIK is the most popular vision correction technique for correcting refractive errors.
  • In 1998, the FDA approved the Excimer Laser for treating nearsightedness (myopia), nearsightedness with astigmatism, or farsightedness (hyperopia), by reshaping the cornea with laser's ultraviolet light.

Some Interesting Facts about the LASIK Procedure:

  • After a corneal flap is made with a microkeratome and folded back, the surgeon gently removes a small amount of corneal tissue, precisely reshaping the cornea so that light will focus directly on the retina.
  • The outpatient procedure takes less than 15 minutes, with most patients reporting little or no discomfort.
  • Most LASIK patients noticed dramatic visual improvement within the first 24 hours following treatment, with vision continuing to improve over 4-6 weeks.
  • Many patients return to work the following day, after their first post-operative exam.
  • LASIK doesn't correct presbyopia—a natural aging condition that usually requires bifocals in people over 40. After LASIK, some people may require reading glasses for close-up work.
  • LASIK has demonstrated a high degree of predictability, safety and effectiveness.

The Advantages of LASIK over other Laser Vision Correction Techniques:

  • More rapid visual recovery.
  • Minimal post-operative discomfort.
  • The advantage of often being able to correct both eyes at the same time.
  • The ability to correct a larger range of refractive errors.
  • The ability to enhance surgical outcomes.
