AK Astigmatic Keratotomy
Astigmatic Keratotomy, used to correct astigmatism, is a variation of the RK procedure.

Astigmatism is a refractive disorder that exists because the cornea is less than spherical. Light rays from the visual ../images are bent out of shape—either horizontally or vertically—before they strike the retina, resulting in distorted and blurry vision.

AK is often performed in combination with other refractive procedures. AK results in relaxing and rounding out the cornea so light then focuses properly onto the retina. The actual surgery takes 10-20 minutes and requires only an hour or two in the outpatient surgical facility.
